Request
- From 1 January 2022 to 1 April 2026, broken down by year, and month, how many of the following crimes were reported to your force with a location marker of ‘petrol station’, ‘forecourt’, ‘service station’ or similar term indicating the [reported] incident took place at a petrol filling station:
- Theft
- Robbery
- Armed robbery
- Burglary
- Attempted burglary
- Arson
- Attempted arson
- Assault
- Criminal damage
- Please provide clear-up rates/tables for those incidents over the same period, broken down by year, and month.
- Please also indicate how many (if any) offences were classified as 'organised retail crime’ if this marker is one used by your constabulary, breaking these markings down by calendar year, and offence type listed above.
- Separately, while I appreciated the specific offence of 'assault on a retail worker' only came into force on 29 April 2026, please tell me how many reports of such alleged incidents your force has so far recorded in total (not just at petrol stations).

South Wales Police do hold some information in relation to your request.
A search has been completed using our crime and incident recording system (Niche RMS) for all crime occurrences recorded between 1st January 2022 and 1st April 2026, where the Tertiary Address field is ‘Petrol Filling Station’ and the
crime has been categorised using the following ONS groups:
- All other theft offences
- Arson
- Business and community burglary
- Criminal damage
- Robbery
- Shoplifting
- Theft from the person
- Violence with injury

We have consulted with our Crime Registrar who has provided the following information.
This offence is newly enacted and not yet operational.
A business robbery would be recorded if any person (including shop-workers or members of the public) was threatened or assaulted in the commission of a retail theft.
