REQUEST

1. Please provide the number of people arrested in your force area for offences committed by a passenger on board an aircraft, broken down by offence, in the calendar years 2023, 2024 and 2025.

Please include offences under the Air Navigation Order 2016 and the Aviation Security Act 1982, and general offences such as common assault, being drunk and disorderly, public order offences and criminal damages.

2. Separately, please provide the number of people arrested for the offences above committed within the airport itself, rather than on board an aircraft, in the calendar years 2023, 2024 and 2025.

If your force area has more than one airport, please break both sets down by airport.

RESPONSE

A search has been completed using our crime and incident recording system (Niche RMS) for all arrests recorded between 1^st January 2023 and 31^st December 2025, where the place of arrest is ‘Cardiff International Airport’ or ‘Swansea Airport’.

A separate search was also completed using our crime and incident recording system (Niche RMS) for all occurrences reported between 1^st January 2023 and 31^st December 2025 where the premises address is ‘Cardiff International Airport’ or ‘Swansea Airport’.  

Each arrest record/ occurrence was individually interrogated to determine relevance to your request.

The searches have revealed 1 arrest for offences committed by passengers whilst on board an aircraft and 5 arrests for offences committed in the airport itself during this timeframe.

All arrests relate to Cardiff International Airport.
