REQUEST

Please provide figures for each of the last three full financial or calendar years (please state which you have used) where held:

1. Whether your force is able to identify recorded offences by location type - specifically, whether offences occurring at school premises can be isolated in your recording system (for example, via a premises or location flag).
2. If so, the number of recorded offences that took place at school premises, broken down by year, and, if readily available, by broad offence type (e.g. violence against the person, possession of a weapon, criminal damage).
3. The number of recorded offences of assault where the victim was a member of school staff (for example, a teacher or teaching assistant), by year, where this information is held or can be identified.
4. The number of recorded offences involving the possession of a bladed article or offensive weapon on school premises, by year, where this information is held.

Clarification: The applicant is happy to receive data for ‘Preparatory / First / Primary / Infant / Junior / Middle School ‘ and  ‘Secondary/High School’ and is content to remove Q3 as this would engage S12(1) Fees exemption.

RESPONSE

Question 1

Crime can be disaggregated by the secondary address description  ‘Education’ and tertiary addresses such as ‘Preparatory / First / Primary / Infant / Junior / Middle School ‘ and  ‘Secondary/High School’

Question 2

A search was conducted on our crime and incident reporting system (NICHE RMS) for recorded crime where the secondary address description was recorded as ‘Education’ and the tertiary address recorded as ‘Preparatory / First / Primary / Infant / Junior / Middle School ‘ and  ‘Secondary/High School’ recorded between the 1^st January 2023 and 31^st December 2025.

Please note that the data has been retrieved by searching on the ‘Crime Date’ and not the ‘Reported Date’. Therefore, these figures relate to occurrences that were recorded as a crime between 1^st January 2023 and 31st December 2025 and not when the occurrences were first reported.

Please note that  reported crime locations may reflect where the incident was reported from and not where the incident has taken place. As a result, locations of reported crimes should not be interpreted as a definitive indication of where the incident took place.

Every effort is made to ensure that the figures presented are accurate and complete however please note that the detail collected to respond specifically to your request is subject to the inaccuracies inherent in any large scale recording system. As a consequence, care should be taken to ensure data collection processes, and their inevitable limitations are taken into account when interpreting those data.

The figures provided therefore are our best interpretation of relevance of data to your request, but you should be aware that the collation of figures for ad hoc requests may have limitations, and this should be taken into account when those data are used for any further statistical, analytical or evaluative purposes.
