Statistics on drink driving

REQUEST

1. Statistics on drink driving; has there been an increase between 2020 and 2025, in those caught above the drink drive limit.
2. Also, the number of drink drive collisions in Wales.

RESPONSE

We conducted a search on our crime and incident recording system (NICHE RMS) under the following Home Office (HO) codes within the requested time frame.

• 004/4/6/RA88043: Cause death by driving without due care and attention / reasonable consideration while unfit through drink - RTA 1988
• 803/1/N/DRIVE MPV WHILST UNF: Drive mpv whilst unfit drink/drugs
• 803/2/N/DRIVE M/V EXCESS ALC: Drive m/v excess alcohol
• 803/4/N/IN CHARGE MPV WHILST: In charge mpv whilst unfit drink/drugs
• 803/5/N/IN CHARGE M/V WITH E: In charge m/v with excess alcohol

There were 358 Road Traffic collisions in South Wales related to drink driving within the requested time frame.
