Tasers deployed in mental health settings

REQUEST

Original request:

1. A list of instances when tasers were deployed by members of your police force in mental health settings in the calendar years 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024.
2. A breakdown of each institution in which these instances of taser deployment occurred.
3. The age of each person who was tasered in each case provided.

For the purposes of this request, the definition of ‘mental health settings’ includes:

• Mental health hospitals
• Mental health wards
• Mental health clinics

Follow up request:

Please can the data sets be combined – so that it is clear which ages of people had tasers used on them for each year provided between 2019-2024?

And please could you confirm whether the data provided is just for when a taser was fired/discharged only?

If not, please could you send the data showing when the taser was fired/discharged only, including which year between 2019-2024 each instance took place and the age group of the individual the taser was used against.

RESPONSE

We consulted with our analysts who confirmed that of the 8 results retrieved no taser was fired/discharged.
