Hate crime training provided to teachers

REQUEST

For the period 01 January 2024 to 24 January 2025.

Confirmation of whether your force has delivered training to teachers, teaching or other staff of schools in relation to Hate Crime (eg what constitutes a hate crime and how to report) and/or what is a non-crime hate incident (eg what constitutes a non-crime hate incident and how to report).

If such training has been delivered, please provide details of the content of the training, course material and any handouts or presentations provided to attendees.

RESPONSE

We consulted with our Communities & Partnerships department who have provided the below response to your request.

From January 2024 – July 2024 the Wales Police Schools Programme was in place, no training was delivered to teachers or school – based staff around hate crime.

In September 2024 the Youth Engagement Service was introduced in schools, the Youth Engagement Officers are not carrying out hate crime training with teachers or school- based staff

Therefore, no training of teachers around Hate Crime (e.g. what constitutes a hate crime and how to report) and/or what is a non-crime hate incident (e.g. what constitutes a non-crime hate incident and how to report).has been provided by SWP to teachers or school-based staff between 1^st January 2024 – 24^th January 2025
