I am writing to ask for a letter that provides the information on crime among young people in Cardiff over summer and statistics up to date.

 

Clarification:

 

South Wales Police: Could you please supply a date range, specific areas and what ages you are interested in? We can then search for recorded offences.

 

Applicant: I'd like to request information about the crime involvement among young people age 13-16 (and below 13 if such data is available) between 2019-2024 during the summer holidays in comparison to the whole year, in all areas of Cardiff. We are interested in finding out if there's a significant rise of crime activity among young people during the time when they are not at school, particularly summer holidays. 

 

South Wales Police: Whilst we can carry out searches for each calendar year between 2019 – 2024, I note that you have also requested figures for the summer holidays.

 

Are there specific dates you would like us to search on between 2019 – 2024? If so, please could you kindly provide these dates?

 

Alternatively, we could carry out searches for the months of July, August and September in each of the years between 2019 and 2024?

 

Applicant: Just to make it easier could you give us information on:

1. 
   The amount of crime/offences committed by young people under the age of 18 for each year between 2019 and 2024 in Cardiff

 

2. The amount of crime/offences committed by young people under the age of 18 for July and August each year between 2019 and 2024 in Cardiff

(or a percentage in comparison to total criminal offence committed during the whole year) 

 

RESPONSE

 

Question 1

 

A search has been conducted for all crimes recorded between 1^st January 2019 and 31^st December 2024 where ‘Under 10’ and ’10-17’ has been selected under the ‘Offender Age Group. The data has then been filtered to ‘Cardiff’ under the ‘Local Authority’.
