REQUEST
I am looking to collect data from other police forces about their current repeat victimisation rates. I would like the number of Repeat Victims between April 2024 and April 2025, and what percentage of domestic incidents that this equates to.
Clarification – I would like to know the figures of total domestic incidents as well as the total of incidents whereby there has been more than one domestic report linked to an individual. This would be for 1st April 2024 - 31st March 2025. Domestic incidents only please, and any offenders to be considered.
RESPONSE
Domestic abuse and violence (DAV) occurrences are all occurrences with a ‘Domestic Abuse’ qualifier and/or an ‘Honour Based Incident’ qualifier and/or occurrences with a DAV PPN (Public Protection Notice).
Between 1st April 2024 and 31st March 2025, there were 34,710 DAV occurrences.
Of these, there were 12,342 occurrences where a repeat victim has been recorded.
Please be advised, repeat victim data is taken directly from the PPN. The data has been filtered to bring back occurrences where ‘Yes’ has been recorded under ‘Repeat Victim’ within the PPN.
A repeat victim is a person who identified as a victim in two or more domestic abuse occurrences within a twelve-month period with the same offender.
Please note, this data is taken from a snapshot of Niche (our crime and incident recording system) and the report is refreshed every day. Therefore, any new data recorded on a particular date will not be reflected in the report the following day.
Domestic abuse is core police business and we are committed to tackling this crime - from call taking and first response by officers, to the investigation and the subsequent action to protect victims. We believe that working in partnership is essential to ensure that domestic abuse becomes everyone’s business. We work closely with a number of statutory and voluntary sector agencies in South Wales to tackle domestic abuse and the many forms of violence
In addition, Operation Amddiffyn was launched in South Wales Police in May 2023. Operation Amddiffyn is a vulnerability related training input that will be provided to all officers and staff in South Wales Police during 2024. This input will be provided to officers and staff who work in public facing roles. Coercive and Controlling behaviour is one of six key themes covered, to raise awareness with our staff and enhance our response to these offences.
