Please can you provide me with the total number of offences recorded by police, broken down by month, since January 2024, of the following offences below. I’m specifically interested in those offences below relating to artificial intelligence usage, so I would like a breakdown to only include those offences which mention “AI”, “artificial intelligence” or “deep fake” or “deepfake” in the crime MO notes – NB: if the force already has its own AI flag, please use that instead of the keyword search.
For each month since and including January 2023, up to the latest month available, could I have the AI-related offences (as classified using the above search terms):
Under Section 66b The Sexual Offences Act 2003 (the offence of sharing or threatening to share an intimate photograph or film of, or appearing to be of, someone - colloquially known as ‘revenge pornography’ – see college of policing guidance here: https://www.college.police.uk/guidance/sharing-photographs-of-people-intimate-state)
Clarification: SWP “Can you please confirm that you require monthly data from January 2023 up to and including June 2025 with keywords “AI”, “artificial intelligence” or “deep fake” or “deepfake” in the MO section of the crime only for the offences listed above.
I would however recommend that you remove “AI” as to include this in the search will bring back any word with ‘ai’ contained within it and will give wildly inaccurate data. South Wales Police do not routinely conduct keyword searches due to the inaccuracies of the figures these searches retrieve, however as you have specifically requested one to be done, we will of course be happy to do so.
Applicant: If it is not possible to search for " ai " or "\bai\b" (to capture word boundaries?). If it isn't possible then please remove the ai bit of the search.
One further thing I should clarify - It appears Sections E-F aren't yet in force - which might explain the lack of home office codes. I think they will be introduced in this bill https://bills.parliament.uk/bills/3938. Please could you answer the rest of the request excluding the E-F sections (Q.2). It would be great to get figures for each month since and including January 2023 if possible
A search has been conducted on our crime and incident reporting system (NICHE RMS) for all occurrences recorded under the HO (Home Office) codes below for the time frame specified.
As you are aware there is no specific offence category to record offences involving ‘deepfakes’. Therefore, as per your request we have searched the MO (modus operandi) for all recorded crimes by way of text search using the terms *artificial intelligence*, *deepfake*, *deep fake* and/or *\bai\b*
This search has retrieved 0 results.
Please note that this data has been gathered by searching our records management system for offences containing the keywords, *artificial intelligence*, *deepfake* and/or *deep fake* and *\bai\b* in the relevant time period. The results retrieved are dependent on how the information has been entered onto the system. As such, the information provided should not be considered statistically accurate and/or definitive and therefore, care should be taken when using this data for any further statistical, analytical or evaluative purposes.
