REQUEST

1. Can you tell me the number of prison officers who have been under investigation by South Wales Police from the 1st January 2024 to the present day.

2. How many were charged, how many are currently under investigation.

RESPONSE

We consulted with our analysts who have conducted a search on our crime and incident recording system (Niche RMS) who conducted a search on all offenders during the requested time frame with the occupation recorded as ‘prison officer’.

Question 1

The above search brought back 37 results.

Please also note this data does not confirm that the crime type under investigation was linked to the offender’s role as a prison officer, only that they were employed as a prison officer at that time.

Question 2

Of the 37 results retrieved there were 2 charges.

There are 6 occurrences yet to be finalised with an outcome of the investigation.
