Summer placement opportunities
Our Summer Placement training programme is an eight-week paid training placement. This is an excellent opportunity for those who are looking for a placement to gain work experience and training.
During this time, students can shadow different areas in the force and have the opportunity to gain an insight into the organisation and the different roles available, as well as the chance to build relationships with staff within the organisation.
The placement can be an opportunity to:
- complement academic learning and gain relevant skills and experience.
- to explore how the organisation works, along with shadowing staff to see if this is the right career path for them.
- network with other placement students and see other areas of business across South Wales Police.
During the programme, students will have the opportunity to engage in:
- Interactive learning: Engage in hands-on activities and real projects.
- Expert guidance: Learn from our leaders with years of experience.
- Networking opportunities: Connect with like-minded peers from diverse backgrounds.
The opportunities available include:
- Community Safety Department
- Equality Diversity and Inclusion

- Police and Crime Commissioner’s Office
- Corporate Services
- Forensics
- Evidence Management Unit
Most of our Summer Placement opportunities will be based in our Bridgend Headquarters, however, there will be one opportunity located in each of the following BCUs:
- Swansea and Neath Port Talbot
- Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan
- Mid Glamorgan (Rhondda Cynon Taf, Merthyr Tydfil, Bridgend)
Our Summer Placement programme opens for recruitment in January 2025, with a start date of July 7, 2025. The programme runs for eight weeks, concluding on August 29, 2025.
