The Communications team are responsible for both internal and external corporate communications and are based both from our Headquarters in Bridgend and in Press Offices across the force area. The Communications department also includes our Media team who develop and produce films, designs, animations and take photographs. The Joint Digital Services Division delivers a joint digital strategy across Gwent Police and South Wales Police. It enables both forces to develop and implement new ways of working and delivering policing to our communities.
The primary focus of Digital Services is to ensure we provide an effective digital policing service for around 9,000 officers, staff, volunteers and partners and around 2 million members of the public across both Gwent and South Wales Police.

The Executive Support team are a vital aide to the Chief Officer Group.
Made up of Officers and Staff, the team carry out essential functions so that Chief Officers can manage core business for the force in an organised and efficient way.

The team aims to deliver an excellent service, providing policy advice, guidance and operational support at all times. They oversee the administrative function of all aspects of the force vehicles; including purchase, lease, hire contract, sponsorship, loan and any other form of vehicle acquisition, including assessing suitability for purpose and coordinating force vehicle insurance policy.

ICT performs a number of functions that underpin core business across South Wales Police. ICT has responsibility for the organisation’s information, processing, storing and delivering it to front line staff when and where it is required.

Our Joint Legal services is a collaborative department working alongside colleagues in Gwent Police. The team provides comprehensive legal advice to the Chief Constable, providing as necessary, representation at Court for disciplinary hearings, employment tribunals, major enquiries, inquests and other hearings.

The JSIU is a collaborative department working alongside colleagues in Gwent and Dyfed-Powys. The JSIU is made up of several specialist departments such as Crime Scene Identification, Fingerprint Identification, Footwear, Drugs and Specialist Forensic Imaging.

The Justice Services team work at various locations around the force supporting frontline Officers, staff and partners within the Criminal Justice System.

The Professional Standards Department aims to reduce allegations of misconduct and complaints from the public by improving the performance of staff and raising standards of behaviour.
The department oversees the management of public complaints, internal conduct and disciplinary proceedings. They also embed learning and improvement which has been identified within its cases.

Operational Support Services arena support Specialist Operations, Force Planning, Custody Services and the Public Service Centre.

You may still be eligible to join the police service if you have minor convictions/cautions, but there are certain offences and conditions that will make you ineligible. This includes anyone who has received a formal caution in the last five years, committed a violent crime or public order offence.
You must be a British Citizen, citizen from the European Economic Area (EEA), Commonwealth citizen or foreign national with no restrictions on your stay in the United Kingdom.
There are also residency requirements depending on the vetting level associated with the role you have applied for. For ‘RV’ level roles you must have been continually resident in the UK for the three year period immediately before an application is made. For ‘MV’ level roles you must have been continually resident in the UK for the five year period immediately before an application is made.
This is to satisfy the requirement to vet all applicants in an equitable manner and the UK Police service does not currently have any means of facilitating vetting checks overseas, to the extent required of those who have been resident in the UK. Applicants who cannot be vetted, cannot be appointed.
All applicants will have their financial status checked. These checks are carried out because Police Staff have access to privileged information, which may make them vulnerable to corruption. Any applicants with outstanding County Court judgements, who have been registered bankrupt with outstanding debts, will be rejected. If you have discharged bankruptcy debts then you will need to provide a Certificate of Satisfaction with your application. Applicants who are the subject of a current Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA) will not be considered.
South Wales Police has a policy of prohibiting any of our officers or staff from being members of the BNP, or a similar organisation whose aims, objectives or pronouncements may contradict the duty to promote race equality. If you are, or have previously been a member of the BNP or a similar organisation, your application will be rejected.
Candidates with visible tattoos may be eligible for appointment. Each case will be considered on its own merits, taking into account the number, nature, size, prominence, appearance and location of the tattoos. Tattoos must not be offensive to colleagues or members of the public or undermine the dignity of your role within the Force. Tattoos on the neck, face or hands are still deemed to be unacceptable but consideration may be given in some circumstances considering the size, nature and prominence of the tattoo. If candidates choose to have any additional tattoos during the recruitment process, after passing eligibility checks, the onus is on them to advise HR and provide appropriate photographs which will need to be checked.
