We want to be the best at understanding and responding to our community’s needs. To do this we need the very best candidates from a wide range of backgrounds to apply to become part of our policing family.
We have a strong commitment to equality and diversity both within the organisation and in the service we provide. Our aim is to attract, recruit, support and promote talented individuals who represent the diverse communities we serve across South Wales.
To value difference we must be inclusive: we recognise that people with a variety of skills, attitudes and experiences, from diverse backgrounds and cultures, bring fresh ideas and perspectives. Encouraging and harnessing these differences can only enhance South Wales Police and we are committed to achieving a workforce that is representative of the communities we serve. In delivering our policing service it is vital we gain the trust and confidence of all our communities and keenly promote diversity and inclusion for everyone.
We encourage individuals from under-represented groups and communities to engage with our recruitment and progression opportunities. As permitted within UK employment equality legislation, we are proud to pursue a policy of Positive action to help achieve this.
If you would like to speak with someone about forthcoming recruitment campaigns, opportunities and support available to you, please contact our Positive Action team at [email protected].
Positive action refers to a range of measures and initiatives that employers can lawfully take to actively encourage individuals from under-represented groups to apply.
Having true difference in our police family brings different perspectives and help us better understand our communities. In doing so, we can innovate and respond to the needs of our ever-changing society.
Our Positive Action team, made up of serving officers and police staff, are on hand to offer assistance to prospective candidates with protected characteristics. They can offer tailored, and sometimes one to one support, to guide you through the application process. They can assist you to overcome any barriers you may feel you face, whatever part of our police family you are thinking of joining.
South Wales Police is currently underrepresented in uniformed roles with candidates from ethnic minority backgrounds. As a result, we are able to offer Positive Action support in all aspects of our recruitment process to candidates that identify as minority ethnic including attendance at upskill events.
For any other individuals who feel they would benefit from additional support – including all female candidates - please contact the Positive Action team on [email protected] to discuss your needs and what support we can offer you.
Our Positive Action team attend a number of events in person across the force area. You are welcome to come and speak to us and ask any questions you have around Positive Action support and a career with South Wales Police. You can view our planned event attendance here.
As part of our positive action activity we host a number of upskill sessions designed to support candidates from ethnic minority backgrounds looking to join South Wales Police. These upskills are tailored to the application processes for each role.
