    Anti-social behaviour in Broadway

    Action taken:

    Anti-social behaviour has seen a steady rise along Broadway street with public drinking and causing an unsafe environment along the street and near Sir Julian’s Hodge. The local Neighbourhood Policing Team in Roath started Operation Brodoa, an initiative to reduce anti-social behaviour by making targeted patrols to increase police visibility to reduce crime and gather relevant intelligence. As a result of the operation, anti-social along Broadway has decreased substantially, made an arrest of an individual dealing drugs along the street and the Neighbourhood Policing Team still has eyes on the issue in case reports come up again.

    Action taken:

    Retail crime along Clifton street remains an issue due to how commercialised the road is, and Roath NPT has tackled this issue by continuing to prioritise proactive patrols and partnership work with local businesses. Local PCSOs continue to work closely with store managers and security teams to improve reporting, share intelligence, and identify prolific individuals at an early stage. This approach ensures we can respond quickly, target the right offenders, and support retailers in creating a safer and more secure shopping environment for the community.

    Autocrime near Howard Gardens

    Action taken:

    Autocrime near Howard Gardens had seen an increase with multiple reports being made. The Neighbourhood Policing Team responded to this by making targeted patrols along Howard Gardens and taking an intelligence led approach to identifying offenders. Two perpetrators linked to vehicle crime in Howard Gardens had been arrested, and reports of vehicle crime in Howard Gardens had steadily decreased.

    Action taken:

    The Neighbourhood Policing Team are taking a proactive approach to autocrime. Operation Salvage, which targets both autocrime, has seized 3 stolen vehicles in May alone. Alongside enforcement, the team has been engaging directly with residents, delivering crime-prevention letters and offering practical advice to reduce vulnerability. Recent offences have shown a clear pattern of offenders targeting insecure vehicles, and our prevention work aims to help residents take simple steps to protect their property.

    Action taken:

    The Neighbourhood Policing Team continues to address pedal cycle theft within Adamsdown, focusing on hotspots identified through recent intelligence and Safer Streets data. Targeted patrols and high-visibility engagement have been conducted . Officers are actively engaging with the community to promote crime prevention measures through engagements with the aim is to reduce theft incidents, increase community confidence, and protect vulnerable cyclists. Multiple seizures have been made in regards to E-bikes through Operation Totora.

    In response to more student related offenses, the Neighbourhood Police Team has made itself a more visible presence to deter offenses, and are patrolling more vulnerable streets students live on and providing literature on house security.

    Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) Across the Adamsdown Sector

    Action taken:

    VAWG continues to be a priority in the local area, and the team is still undergoing Operation Red Swan and Operation Red Lantern. Red Lantern has run on 5 occasions targeting in excess of 20 premises linked through intelligence to sex work and addressed safeguarding and vulnerability concerns. The team has also undergone Operation Makesafe, an initiative to raise awareness of child exploitation within the business community, such as hotels, licensed premises, taxi companies and shops, by supplying posters to hang up to be aware of the signs of exploitation, especially amongst young girls.
