Armed Forces Week 2025

Main article content

Published: 15:00 23/06/2025

This week, we pay tribute to the Armed Forces community and the important work they do to promote peace, deliver aid and provide security to people all over the world.

This tribute and support also extends to those from our own service; the 213 ex-Armed Forces personnel and 24 Reservists who we proudly employ today to help us keep our communities safe.

To celebrate this week and salute the heroes from our forces, we are sharing some of the experiences of colleagues who have served our country either as Reservists or as part of our nation’s Armed Forces.

Lyndon Davies, former Reservist and Senior Occupational Health Advisor

Lyndon joined us in 2023 and serves as a Senior Occupational Health Advisor. Between 2006 and 2018, and whilst gaining experience with other emergency services, he also served as a Special Constable in Cardiff.

In 2011 Lyndon was commissioned into the Army Reserve and was mobilised for regular service with the Army as a Nursing Officer with the Queen Alexandra Royal Army Nursing Corps in Afghanistan in 2013.

Whilst there he was selected to train and mentor Afghan Army officials and help develop a medical facility for field casualties.

In this short clip, Lyndon talks about his experiences, the skills he gained and why he re-joined South Wales Police in the years following his service.

Catherine Loosemore, ex-Armed Forces and Chief Inspector for Performance and Business Intelligence

Cath joined us in 2019 having previously served for ten years with West Midlands Police. In her time with us, she has specialised in Domestic Abuse and taken on a role within our Professional Standards Department.

Prior to her career in the police service, Cath joined the Army in 2000 at the age just 16, enlisting with the Royal Regiment of Artillery. Her experiences in the forces would take her to Germany and Bosnia before deployment to Iraq in 2003.

In the below, Cath talks us through the skills she gained in service and how her experience in Iraq inspired her to join the police service in 2009.

In 2022, South Wales Police signed the Armed Forces Covenant and pledged to acknowledge and understand the need for fair treatment and respect of those who serve or have served in our nation’s Armed Forces.

As an organisation we remain committed to this pledge and we are also dedicated to remembering those who have died in service with the Armed Forces, whether at home or overseas.
