Joseph Tanetta has been jailed for a violent robbery in Splott, Cardiff.
He was one of two men who attacked a 27-year-old man as he was walking home from a night out in Cardiff city centre.
The victim suffered a broken jaw, which required a metal plate, and a puncture wound to his thigh.
One of the men responsible was 30-year-old Tanetta.
Detective Sergeant George Buckley, from South Wales Police said:
“The victim was walking home alone at around 4am on May 8, 2022, when he happened to walk pass Tanetta and an unknown man in Sanquhar Street.
“Evidence revealed how they approached the victim from behind, punched and kicked him to the body and head repeatedly, stabbed his leg, and robbed him of his phone, wallet, and keys.
“This was an appalling level of violence, and the CCTV footage is horrific. It is no wonder that the victim continued to have regular flashbacks.”
Tanetta was identified as a suspect from DNA found inside the victim’s pocket. In August 2024 he was found guilty of robbery, possession of a knife, and grievous bodily harm. On Thursday, October 17, Tanetta was back in Cardiff Crown Court to be sentenced. He was jailed for 13 years with an extended licence of five years.
The second suspect remains unknown.
DS Buckley added:
“I would like to commend the victim for his bravery throughout this traumatic experience.
"We hope this sentence gives him some comfort and allows him to rebuild his confidence.
“Tanetta is a dangerous offender, and the lengthy sentence handed down by the judge reflects this.”
