Police officers in Treorchy have been given extra powers to deal with youths causing anti-social behaviour this weekend.
The decision has been made following recent anti-social behaviour incidents in the area which caused concern among residents.
The dispersal order, which is granted under the Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014, will apply to those aged 10 years and over and will be in place until 8.00pm on Sunday May 19.
The Order coves the areas taking in Treorchy cricket club grounds and associated areas of the park, Treorchy rugby ground, A4061 High Street from the junction of Chapel Street up to the junction of Cemetery Road. It also includes Station Road from High Street to Park Crescent.
Anyone aged 10-16 years of age subject to this legislation will be removed to their home address or to a place of safety. Police Officers and PCSOs will also have the power to seize any property which officers suspect is being used to cause ASB.
Chief Inspector Emma Hampton said: “We will not tolerate underage drinking or any other unacceptable behaviour in the area. I am asking parents and guardians to remind their children to avoid this area this weekend.
“We will also have additional resources and will be conducting high visibility patrols in the community to reassure the public and deal with any issues to ensure that residents remain and feel safe.”
“Please come and speak to our teams if you have any concerns. Or, you can report any information you may have online via our website or by calling 101.”
