South Wales Police is proud to represent and protect all communities that it serves.

We are aware of concerns regarding drug dealing and associated violence in Butetown. Tackling these concerns is a priority for us.

We regularly deploy plain-clothed officers from our Op Sceptre and Organised Crime Teams to gather intelligence and identify offenders. These patrols are complimented by high visibility-patrols by Neighbourhood and Response officers.

Below are some recent examples of positive action and how we are working hard to keep Butetown and the wider community safe:

In addition to these local examples, weapons and millions of pounds of drugs and cash have been seized in the last 12 months by a specialist South Wales Police team, based here in Cardiff.

Between April 2022 – April 2023, the Op Sceptre Team in Cardiff has:

  • taken 92 weapons off the streets
  • seized £5m worth of drugs and £123k in cash
  • made 189 arrests.

The work of the Op Sceptre Team is complemented by neighbourhood, response, specialist operations, and other police teams.

South Wales Police will continue to do everything possible to keep communities safe and to ensure that people feel safe when going about their everyday business.
