Christopher Chandler sentenced to 14 years in prison for attempt murder of his partner.

South Wales Police were called just before 3pm on Sunday 25th September 2022 following concerns for a woman on Orchard Street, Swansea. Officers attended and discovered a 43-year-old woman who had suffered serious injuries in an assault upon her at the hands of her partner, 57-year-old Christopher Chandler.

The assault happened that afternoon in her home near Orchard Street. The woman was found to have multiple stab wounds to her upper body and was taken to University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff for further treatment. One wound still had the blade of the knife used in the attack embedded within her, which later had to be surgically removed. Christopher Chandler was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempt murder.

Following a thorough investigation by Detectives, he was sentenced today to 14 years imprisonment for attempt murder at Swansea Crown Court.

Detective Constable Andrew Hirst, of Neath CID, who was the Officer in Charge (OIC) of the case said: “This was no doubt an extremely frightening incident for the victim who remained in hospital for some time receiving treatment for the serious injuries caused in the violence demonstrated by Christopher Chandler. The woman continues to recover from the trauma and receive further support”.

“The bravery shown by the victim is completely admirable and her strength throughout this process has been unwavering”.

Detective Inspector Carl Price added: “South Wales Police takes all reports of domestic abuse very seriously. We are committed to protecting the lives of both adult and child victims of that abuse.

“Many abusers rely on silence so they can continue the abuse. If you are worried about a loved one or someone you know, please report it to us. We will listen.”

DI Price added: “No person should suffer at the hands of another in any scenario, but especially by someone who is close to them or in a position of trust. South Wales Police will deal with offenders of domestic violence robustly, and their actions will not be tolerated within our communities in any circumstance”.

“We would like to offer thanks to the community who aided the victim prior to attendance of emergency services, and later assisted the police investigation”.
