    Issued 16 June 2026

    Action taken:

Officers have carried out targeted patrols during the summer months resulting in the arrest and charge of numerous individuals found in the area committing offenses possession with intent to supply class A drugs and prolific shoplifting.

Alongside this we have worked with several partner agencies including Newydd Housing and Vale of Glamorgan Council to provide diversionary activity for youths in the area such as outdoor play sessions run by the Vale Play Team.

  • Priority:

    ASB Dunlin Court

    ASB Barry Leisure Centre

    Issued 16 March 2026

    Action taken:

Dunlin Court continues to be a priority for the neighbourhood policing team are residents - our increased presence has seen an immediate impact in disrupting criminality resulting in numerous arrests including possession with intent to supply class A drugs, shoplifting, and assault. We will continue to focus this area as we work with partners to deliver long term and sustainable solutions alongside short term interventions.

Increased policing presence and targeted patrols during the evenings and weekends have seen a marked reduction in calls to the Leisure centre. ASB referrals have been issued for persons causing issues and parents have been notified when appropriate. Closed

    Actioned 16 June 2026

  • Priority:

    Focus on retail crime

    Issued 16 December 2025

    Action taken:

Shoplifting continues to be a main focus for us during the next few months and with the introduction of the new Town Centre Street Warden, we aim to work with him to identify and apprehend shoplifters and further reduce crime in the area.

Last December we set retail crime as our priority for the Castleland ward - since the there have been 16 incidents of shoplifting reported to police. There have already been 9 arrests for those offences with other charges likely for the most recent cases. This can be considered a success with a detection rate of 56%, more than double that of the national average for 2025 of around 20%. (office for national statistic2024/25) This has been achieved by working with retailers to improve CCTV capabilities in store and by use of plain clothes officers to target known offenders.

    Actioned 16 March 2026
