Tom began his policing career in January 2012 and since then has undertaken a variety of roles across frontline response, proactive teams, and investigation roles.
In 2014, Tom transitioned into detective work, gaining experience in the fields of organised crime, community safety, and proactive investigations. He progressed through several ranks, ultimately serving as Detective Chief Inspector, during which he led numerous high-risk investigations as a Senior Investigating Officer. He also retained his firearms accreditation, supporting the deployment of proactive armed operations.
As a Detective Superintendent, Tom was posted to the armed operations portfolio, managing, tasking, and developing armed response teams. He led a strategic review into the command and control of armed operations, and, following this, Tom joined the Counter Terrorism Command, where he performed several different roles in both the covert and overt environment.
On promotion to Detective Chief Superintendent, Tom was appointed as Operational Command Unit commander for intelligence, his previous roles helping him lead the implementation of a new operating model to enhance the tactical and strategic response to intelligence delivery.

As a neurodiverse officer, Tom is deeply committed to promoting awareness and encouraging greater representation within policing. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family and caring for his two young children.
Tom joined South Wales Police in September 2025 and remains dedicated to enhancing public safety and building stronger communities across South Wales.
