Football banning orders for two fans who attended Cardiff vs Newport game at the Cardiff City Stadium

One man from Aberdare and one man from Newport have received football banning orders which prevents them from attending any UK football match for three years.
The two men attended the Cardiff City vs Newport County game in the Vertu Trophy match on Tuesday October 7.
Gavin Fernquest from Newport attended Cardiff Magistrates' Court on Friday October 24 where he pleaded guilty to the offence of possession of a pyrotechnic device inside the stadium.
Fernquest was clearly seen on CCTV to be walking up and down the steps within the away stand whilst waving an orange smoke bomb above his head following the Newport goal. He had denied taking the item into the ground. Fernquest was issued with a three-year Football Banning Order for the offence, and he also received a fine, cost and victim surcharge totalling £401.
Ashley Collins from Aberaman, Aberdare, also appeared at Cardiff Magistrates' Court on Friday, October 24, where he pleaded guilty to the offence of pitch incursion and possession of a Class A drug at the Cardiff City Stadium on October 7, 2025.
He jumped the barrier and ran across the pitch following the Newport goal and he was apprehended by stewards close-by. He was later found to have cocaine in his possession whilst in custody. Collins also received a three-year Football Banning Order and a fine, costs and victim surcharge totalling £253.00.
It was the second time Collins has been convicted of pitch incursion with the other incident occurring in 2012, for which he received a ban from attending matches.
The imposition of Football Banning orders means that neither can attend matches in the UK or abroad for the next three years, this includes every Euro 2028 game held in the UK.
Further investigations surrounding this match are ongoing.
Superintendent Emma Fox said:
"Most of the fans who attended this match behaved impeccably, but unfortunately a select few have marred the occasion. Those outstanding will be dealt with accordingly.”
