Request

Under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 I should be grateful if you could provide your Force’s recorded data for homophobic and transphobic hate crimes/incidents for the calendar years 2020 to 2025. I appreciate you will not have 2026’s figures but any contemporaneous figures or trends emerging would additionally be incredibly helpful.

Please supply the data in machine‑readable format (CSV preferred) and include the following fields where available:

• Year
• Hate type (homophobic; transphobic)
• Offence category (e.g., assault, public order, criminal damage, sexual offence, other)
• Number of recorded incidents
• Outcome (e.g., charged, cautioned, no further action, under investigation, other)
• Lowest available geography (local authority / policing area)
• Victim age band and gender (if recorded)
• Notes on data completeness or changes in recording practice (including from what year electronic records begin)

If exact matches to the categories above are not held please provide the closest available breakdown and a brief note explaining any differences or gaps.

Response

A search has been conducted on our crime and incident recording system (Niche RMS) for all Hate crimes recorded that have been categorised with either a ‘Sexual Orientation’ or ‘Transgender’ marker between the 1^st January 2020 and the 30^th June 2026.

Please see below the meanings of the abbreviations included in the outcome data:

l SUA – Suspect underage

l S ill – Suspect ill

l VW dead/ill – Victim or witness dead/ill

l S not identified – Suspect not identified

l VS - Victim Supports

l VDNS – Victim does not support

l NSI – No suspect identified

l V aware – Victim aware

l CPS – Crown Prosecution Service

l NIPI – Not in public interest

Please also note the outcome ‘00: Not recognised as an official outcome’ relates to crimes that have not yet been finalised and remain under investigation.

Please also note that the data has been retrieved by searching on the ‘Crime Date’ and not the ‘Reported Date’. Therefore, these figures relate to occurrences that were recorded as a crime between 1^st January 2020 and the 30^th June 2026 and not when the occurrences were first reported.
