REQUEST
I would like to know how many dogs South Wales Police have seized since the ban for XL bully dogs came in last year (February 1, 2024) and how many of these have been found to be banned breeds.
This relates to the whole area which South Wales Police cover and the period of time from February 1, 2024 to today (April 23, 2025). (Or in the last financial year if the above is not possible).
RESPONSE
We conducted a search on our Crime and Incident recording system (NICHE RMS) for the amount of dogs seized within the request time frame. We then further refined this search to only include XL Bully dogs.
236 dogs were seized by South Wales Police between 01/02/2024-23/04/2025.
Of the 236 dogs, 80 were recorded to be XL Bully.
