1. In 24/25 how many conditional cautions were issued by your police force for domestic abuse related offences. Can these be broken down and provided with men compared to women.

RESPONSE

Domestic abuse is core police business and we are committed to tackling this crime - from call taking and first response by officers, to the investigation and the subsequent action to protect victims. We believe that working in partnership is essential to ensure that domestic abuse becomes everyone’s business. We work closely with a number of statutory and voluntary sector agencies in South Wales to tackle domestic abuse and the many forms of violence.

Operation Amddiffyn is a vulnerability related training input that was provided to all officers and staff who work in public facing roles in South Wales Police during 2024. Coercive and Controlling behaviour is one of six key themes covered, to raise awareness with our staff and enhance our response to these offences.

Questions 1 & 2

A search has been conducted for all occurrences with a ‘Domestic Abuse’ qualifier and/or an ‘Honour-Based Incident’ qualifier and/or occurrences with a ‘Domestic Abuse and Violence’ PPN (Public Protection Notice) that received the outcome type ’03: Conditional adult caution’ or ’02: Conditional youth caution’ between 1^st April 2023 and 31^st March 2025. This is retrieved from our crime and incident recording system (Niche RMS).

Please be advised, the law defines domestic abuse as abusive behaviour by one person towards another, where both people are aged 16 or over. We have therefore included data on conditional cautions recorded under ‘Conditional youth caution’ as children aged 16 – 17 years old can receive a youth conditional caution.
