REQUEST
- Please tell me the number of recorded offences under s.15A of the Sexual Offences Act 2003, sexual communication with a child, (Home Office recording code 71/17) recorded from (and including) April 1st 2024 until (and including) March 31st, 2025.
- Where possible I would like to know the age and gender of the victim, broken down into age groups: 11 and under, 12-15, 16 and over.
RESPONSE
A search was carried out on our crime and incident reporting system (NICHE RMS) for HO (Home office) code: 88A/071/17/SX03224: Engage in sexual communication with a child. Section 15A of the Sexual Offences Act 2003 within the requested time frame.

There were 293 occurrences recorded under the above Home Office codes between April 1st 2024 to March 31st 2025.

Please note, in cases where the victim gender and age is ‘not recorded’ this may be because South Wales Police are noted as the victim or due to the way data has been inputted into the system.
The ability to react to incidents of abuse against children is of the highest priority for South Wales Police. We actively pursue every opportunity to identify children at risk, focussing our efforts in making sure victims are appropriately safeguarded through multi-agency involvement and offenders are brought to justice.
