Original Request (617/25):
I confirm the details required as follows: All GM hearings for police and staff for the last 18 months together with details of allegation(s) if possible
Follow Up Request (709/25):
Having looked at the information, there appears to be a lack of consistent approach where staff and officers have had their cases proven in respect of "engaged in discreditable conduct"
In the majority of cases staff and officers have been dismissed. Yet where cases are proven which includes proven other conduct issues they are still employed?
Perhaps you would be kind enough to explain this as a separate request if deemed necessary.
RESPONSE
We have consulted with our Professional Standards Department who have provided the below response to your request.
The sanctions are applied on a case-by-case basis – no one case is ever the same.
The gravity of the allegations, as well as any mitigating or aggravating factors are considered during the hearings and therefore, a one-size-fits-all approach would not be appropriate.
South Wales Police is committed to investigating all allegations of misconduct and robustly pursue allegations of wrongdoing, including corruption. It should be noted that the vast majority of staff work extremely hard to ‘Keep South Wales Safe’ but on occasions, the actions of a few tarnish the professional reputation of the organisation. South Wales Police provide extensive training and advice to police officers and police staff around issues of dishonesty, unethical behaviour and corruption and have an integrity hotline, which allows the confidential reporting of wrongdoing. South Wales Police will continue to develop a culture in which reporting wrongdoing and corruption is viewed as doing the right thing and will continue take a proactive and positive lead on all such matters.
