Request
- Under the Freedom of Information act can you please tell me at what speed over the limit your force applies the following enforcements:
- Fixed penalty notice
- Speed awareness course
- Summons to court
- If this is not calculated as a percentage of the limits, please give examples for the speeds at which you would apply them at 20. 30. 40. 50. 60 and 70mph.
- Please could you confirm if the force follows the National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC - ACPO as was) guidelines on speeding enforcement.

We consulted with our Central Ticket Office who have provided the following information in relation to your request.
Questions 1 & 2
Please see the attached document entitled ‘Speed thresholds’.
Question 3
Yes, with the exception of 20mph, NPCC suggest a tolerance of 10 % + 1 with enforcement taking place at 10 % + 2 of the speed limit.
Prior to enforcement after the default speed limit changed in Wales to 20 mph on the 17th September 2023, a decision was taken between Welsh Government, Chief Officers and the Head of GoSafe at that time that enforcement would start at 26mph.
