South Wales Police is excited to launch our 2022 Intern Programme; we are looking for people with diverse skills and experiences to join our successful team.
This is an excellent opportunity for applicants who are looking for a 12-month work placement to join a specialist department and gain work experience and training.
In joining #TeamSWP you will be working within a leading force and one where you will be able to contribute new ideas and work to make a difference in society.
South Wales Police particularly welcomes applicants from under-represented groups.
The programme commences September 2022 and in order to be eligible for the intern programme you will need to be studying for a degree and looking for a ‘sandwich placement’ or alternatively you will have graduated within 3 years. Please note that you cannot apply if you have already undertaken an internship with South Wales Police.
All applicants will have to complete pre-employment checks.
"The JSIU internship is slightly different to other internships, as we get the opportunity to move through the different forensic departments. So far, I’ve spent time in Footwear, Fingerprint Development Unit and Forensic Imaging. I’ve also had the opportunity to visit a range of crime scenes with CSIs.
"This has allowed me to gain an understanding of what is done in the different departments, and I have also been able to gain hands on practical experience in each department.
"From developing fingerprints and coding footwear marks, to recovering CCTV footage and seeing what happens to recovered evidence from crime scenes, I’ve been able to gain experience and knowledge for my future, which will be beneficial for whichever path I decide to take."
"I’ve enjoyed every minute of my time as an intern within the digital and content team. My role is incredibly varied, no two days are the same.
"From capturing major events to producing content for our social channels, I’ve seen so many different aspects of policing and had the opportunity to engage with the communities we serve."
"I have learnt so much during my internship as a graphic designer for South Wales Police. It has provided me with a variety of opportunities to learn more about design, develop my skills as a designer and gain an understanding of the ways of working within industry.
"It has also allowed me to gain a wider understanding about the organisation which has helped me with my role when completing tasks."
"In my current role at South Wales Police, I have gained more experience and responsibility than I could have ever imagined. This has been a fantastic experience so far.
"I have been heavily involved in carrying out digital forensic investigations. I have attended training courses relating to forensics software and up and coming tools. I have also provided training to staff from other departments and attended events around the UK.
"As well as this, I have attended Search Warrants with the Police Online Investigation Team to triage digital device.
"This experience, as well as my time at USW, has helped me massively for my personal and professional development and has set me up nicely for pursuing a career in Digital Forensics."
"I’ve greatly appreciated my time with SWP and the skills and experiences I’ve learnt during these first six months. I had no idea an organisation could be so big and I’m still learning something new every day.
"I’ve learnt a variety of new skills that I never would have in university, everyone is so encouraging and happy to help as well!"
"The time I’ve spent with the South Wales Police Heritage Centre has proven invaluable. There has been constant support throughout my time here, and I’ve felt that there is always the support necessary to develop the skills you want to excel in."
