Raymond Skene, from Splott, Cardiff, pleaded guilty to two counts of indecent assault and gross indecency with a child.
In a Victim Personal Statement read to the court, the victim described suffering flashbacks of the assaults and feelings of guilt.
Officer in the case Detective Constable Adam Segarty said:
“The multiple assaults stayed with the victim for over 30 years, and she never believed this day would come. We hope the outcome at court gives her some comfort to move forward.
“This case is yet another example of why it is never too late for victims of sexual offences to come forward.
“Perpetrators of sexual offences must not get away with their crimes no matter how long ago they were committed. I hope this encourages more victims to come forward.”
On Wednesday, October 16, at Cardiff Crown Court, Skene was sentenced to nine months imprisonment suspended for 18 months.
He is also subject to a 10-day rehabilitation course and sex offender notification requirements for 10 years.
If you have been a victim of a sexual offence, officers at South Wales Police, together with specialist support workers are ready and waiting to listen and help.
