A motorist who was stopped by officers after driving at high speed through Ely in Cardiff has been banned from driving for four years and received fines and court costs of almost £1,500.
In the early hours of December 16, a high-powered BMW 7 series was seen by local officers being driven at speed through Ely.
Police officers from the Roads Policing Unit stopped the car and the driver tested positive at the roadside for cannabis.
He then failed to provide an evidential specimen of blood at custody.
James Harvey, 33, from Barry, was charged with failing to provide a specimen and he entered a not guilty plea.
On Tuesday March 5, Harvey, appeared before Cardiff Magistrates' Court where he was found guilty and was disqualified from driving for four years and received fines and court costs of almost £1,500.
Inspector Michael Prickett of the Roads Policing Unit said:
“There is no excuse for getting behind the wheel of a car when you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
“We are out there, and we will catch you and put you before the courts to face justice.”
