A South Wales Police operation to keep coastal areas of Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan safe and family-friendly over the summer is underway.
Operation Elstree aims to deliver a collaborative approach to tackling crime, safety concerns and anti-social behaviour across the County’s popular summer destinations, including Barry Island, Ogmore, Cosmeston Lakes, and Penarth Marina.
Officers will be working closely with colleagues from the respective local authorities to address this issue. Local neighbourhood officers will be supported by colleagues from across South Wales Police as well as a range of colleagues from our partner agencies.
It will run from now until September.
Vale of Glamorgan Inspectors Mark Henderson and Abi Biddle said:
"It's understandable that everyone is keen to make the most of the good weather and visit our beautiful coastal areas this bank holiday weekend, but we would ask visitors to please be considerate of the areas their visiting.
“Anti-social behaviour (ASB) and criminality has a detrimental impact on our communities and we will continue to work with our partners to proactively patrol these key areas to prevent such activity.
This team effort is intended to prevent crime and anti-social behaviour while ensuring the quiet enjoyment of coastal areas for law-abiding residents and visitors.”
Operation Elstree will also tackle concerns about underage drinking, tombstoning and anti-social use of off-road bikes and quads.
