Misconduct Hearing Outcome Former Police Sergeant David Meller

A police misconduct hearing was held on 11th and 12th January to consider allegations of discreditable conduct against a former South Wales Police officer.
Ex-Sergeant David Meller faced 12 allegations of breaching the standards of professional behaviour, namely authority, respect and courtesy, discreditable conduct and failing to challenge inappropriate behaviour. The allegations involved inappropriate behaviour and language towards female colleagues and a female detainee in the custody suite.
A gross misconduct hearing, chaired by Christopher McKay, alongside lay member Susan Gwyer-Roberts and Police Superintendent Eve Davis, found the allegations to be proven and delivered the sanction of dismissal if the officer had not resigned prior to the hearing. A referral will be made to the College of Policing for the officer to be added to the Barring List, preventing him from returning to the profession.
