Jonathan Walker was sentenced to 13-years imprisonment for sexual assault of a child and possession and distribution of indecent images.
Walker, aged 33 from Merthyr Tydfil downloaded and distributed scores of vile videos of children and babies being abused and raped with the youngest victim in the clips estimated to be just a matter of months old.
The Police Online Investigation Team (POLIT) team received contact from an FBI officer in America. Walker shared videos and messages which indicated he was sexually abusing a child. It was immediately identified that Walker was in the South Wales police area and POLIT staff were able to locate and arrest him within hours of the referral being received.
Detective Inspector Carrie Edmonds commented, “At the time of his arrest Walker attempted to destroy his mobile phone which was prevented by arresting officers. With the assistance of digital forensics a child victim was identified and relevant safeguarding measures put in place to protect the child.
In addition, more than 160 child sexual abuse images and videos as well as 178 bestiality images were recovered. Walker was charged and remanded into custody the following morning where he has remained until sentencing.
He was a calculating and deviant individual. I thank the hard work of my colleagues across all agencies who help bring justice, and safeguard children across South Wales and the wider area.”
Walker will be a will be a registered sex offender for the rest of his life.
