#OPERATION l An operation to tackle drug dealing in Ely has resulted in 66 arrests and a number of dangerous weapons being taken off the streets.
During Operation Grey Atlantic, two teams of officers worked in plain-clothes over a four-week period.
As well as foot patrol they also used covert vehicles to gather intelligence and identify vulnerable people being exploited by those engaged in drug trafficking.
Around a third of the 66 arrests were for possession with intent to supply drugs and among the items seized were five knives, 19 vehicles and £15k cash.
Sergeant Carys Lewis, based at Ely Police Station, said: “Drug dealing and the associated violence is a cause for concern for us and the people living in Ely.
"Drug dealers prey on the vulnerability of drug users for quick financial gain and have complete disregard for the consequences of their actions. We will not stand by while our community continues to suffer.
"Operation Grey Atlantic sends a clear message that this criminality will not be tolerated and we will do all we can to target drug dealers, protect the vulnerable and make the wider community feel safe.”
