South Wales Police is continuing to investigate the death of Gary Jenkins 54, who died at the University Hospital of Wales on Thursday August 5, after being the victim of an assault during the early hours of Tuesday, July 20 in Bute Park, Cardiff.

We are appealing for the public’s help in identifying a possible witness.

Three people have been charged and remanded in relation to his murder and detectives are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with the assault.

However, a re-appeal is being made to identify a man who may have information which could assist the investigation team.

An appeal to trace him was first made in August and then in September, but his identify remains unknown.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector Stuart Wales, from the South Wales Police Major Crime Investigation Team said: “We continue to appeal to this male, or anyone who may know his identity to please call South Wales Police, or Crimestoppers anonymously, so that we can speak to him.

“I will stress again that he is a potential witness and has no reason to fear coming forward.

“We need to speak with him about his movements and interactions in Cardiff City centre during the relevant time.

“We believe he would have been in the vicinity of the top of Queen Street near its junction with St John Street at around 11.30pm on Monday, July 19.

“We understand he was then in the vicinity of the Esso garage at the bottom of Cathedral Road at 11.54pm before walking up Cathedral Road away from the city centre,

“I must stress he has done nothing wrong but he may have important information that would further assist our enquiries in relation to what happened to Dr Gary Jenkins.

“I would once again like to thank the community for the excellent support they have provided to this investigation to date, which has helped enormously.”

Information or footage which could assist the investigation can be submitted via an online portal https://mipp.police.uk/operation/62SWP21B34-PO1
