Well done to our PCSOs who rescued a man from the moat at Cardiff Castle on a cold dark evening.
The officers were alerted after members of the public heard a man scream for help.
The PCSOs scrambled down the embankment to the water’s edge and a threw a buoyancy aid to the man.
But his legs were trapped and he was unable to reach the buoyancy aid.
PCSO Bridgeman bravely entered the water and pulled the man onto the banking.
A special mention to Andrew Chandler, a worker at the nearby Winter Wonderland, who helped with the rescue.
Mr Chandler has since contacted South Wales Police to praise PCSO Bridgeman.
“I am in no doubt if he hadn't have jumped in, this man would have died. He is a credit to your force and to the uniform.
“As soaked and muddy as he was, he (Pcso Loyd Bridgeman) stayed with the man in the back of the police van to get him warm before taking him to hospital.”
The man was visibly distressed and shivering as result of the incident but was taken to hospital by officers as a precaution.
He is now safe and well.
Inspector Darren Grady said: “The bravery and quick thinking of the PCSOs have ultimately saved this man's life.
“I feel very proud that we have PCSOs like Lloyd Bridgeman among our ranks.
“Without their actions, professionalism and bravery, the outcome for this man could have been very different."
South Wales Police continues to works closely with Cardiff Council / Cyngor Caerdydd and the voluntary sector in supporting vulnerable people on our streets.
We encourage vulnerable people to engage with the many support agencies and outreach services that are available in Cardiff.
