When police stopped Lee Anthony Cross (pictured) on Cathedral Road, he was carrying a bag of items – including commemorative coins - stolen from a house the day before.

At the time of his arrest, he was also wanted for a second burglary where jewellery, money and car had been stolen from a family home.

The 38-year-old from Ely has now been sentenced to 4 years in prison for burglary, aggravated vehicle taking, and assault police with intent to resist arrest.

South Wales Police is reminding Cardiff homeowners to make sure their properties are protected particularly in the run up to Christmas.

Detective Constable Ceri Young:
💬 We know that being a victim of burglary is a traumatic experience and that it why it is a priority for South Wales Police
💬 Unfortunately there are burglars who will devote their time to walking the streets looking for a window or door that has been left open.

Cross was identified by DNA on a screwdriver left inside the house in Lansdowne Road, Canton, on June 14.

He had broken in through an insecure patio door while the owners were asleep upstairs.

On August 1, he burgled a house in Craiglee Drive, Butetown, again gaining entry through a rear door.

Cross was arrested within 24 hours on Cathedral Road, charged and remanded in custody.

Many of the stolen items, including the car from Lansdowne Road, have since been returned to their owners.

He was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court on December 4 having pleaded guilty to all charges.

DC Young:
💬 With Christmas approaching burglars know that people will have valuables at home so it is especially important that we all get in the habit of double-checking our home are secure.

💬 We treat burglaries extremely seriously and our officers are 100% dedicated to arresting burglars to give peace of mind to victims and to keep Cardiff safe.💬Image attachmentImage attachment
