This month we’re showing how police uniforms within the force have developed over the years.
Here’s how different the uniforms looked from 1969 to now – how times have changed!
Our Deputy Chief Constable, Richard Lewis, spoke about how much the uniform has changed in his time working for South Wales Police for over 30 years.
“Our force has certainly come a long way in 50 years. You only have to look at the uniform that was worn, the locations of police stations, and the improvements we have made in technology.
“When I joined back in 1987, we were issued with blue shirts, wooden truncheons which would fit into long pockets on your trouser leg, woollen jumpers and tunics for day-to-day work.
“The history of this organisation is all around us. It’s in the walls of our stations, within the communities we police, and within the hearts and the minds of you, our staff past and present.”
