South Wales Police is supporting White Ribbon Day on Thursday 25th November to end male violence against women and girls.

White Ribbon Day, which is the International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women, is followed by a 16 day period of action.

Women and girls are disproportionately the victims of violence and abuse, and suffer more at the hands of a partner, former partner or family member and sometimes a stranger.

These situations affect victims and those closest to them both emotionally and physically. It is crucial for the Force to work together with partners and communities to protect vulnerable people and to bring those responsible to justice.

Policing will not stop after the 16 days of action. South Wales Police will continue to tackle the perpetrators of violence towards women. With the help of partners across the criminal justice system, the Force are committed to making long-lasting change to the daily lives of women and girls.

Men and women across the Force will be wearing the White Ribbon on the day to show their commitment to tackling violence against women and girls.

South Wales Police Chief Constable Jeremy Vaughan said:

“White Ribbon Day is an opportunity to reaffirm the pledge we make never to commit, excuse or remain silent about male violence against women and girls.

“I'm really grateful for the incredible and challenging work done every day by all those who are working hard to keep people safe. White Ribbon Day is followed by 16 days of action and policing must and will not stop after this.

“Any form of violence against women and girls is unacceptable, and we will work tirelessly with our communities and partners to tackle the issue and ensure that we get the best for our victims, empowering our communities to become safer stronger and more confident.

“I promise never to commit, excuse or remain silent about male violence against women and urge you to do the same.”

If you or someone you know needs help, please contact South Wales Police, or someone that you feel comfortable talking to, so that the Force can take action.
