Your Right to Information

To request information from South Wales Police, you can either:

  • Request non-personal information under the Freedom of InformationAct 2000
  • Request personal information under the provisions of the Data Protection Act 1998

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA)

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) allows the public to access information recorded by South Wales Police.

Under the Act, anyone who makes a request for information must be told whether that information is held and then, subject to exemptions, the person will be supplied with that information.

The Data Protection Act 1998

The Data Protection Act 1998 gives individuals the right of access to personal information, which may be held about them, subject to certain exemptions. This is called the right of ‘Subject Access’.
