Vehicle Recovery

Using powers under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and the Motor Vehicles Regulations (Removal and Disposals) 1986 legislation, South Wales Police works with partners to recover abandoned or stolen vehicles on behalf of the owner and insurer.

This is done to ensure public safety and prevent further crime such as another theft, criminal damage or arson.

Once a vehicle is recovered, it is forensically examined in a bid to detect any offences.

There is a charge for statutory vehicle removal but provided the vehicle is insured against loss through theft, insurers will normally accept responsibility for them.

If your vehicle is recovered by South Wales Police in these circumstances, we’ll update you about the progress of your case and recommend you contact your insurance company as soon as possible if you want their assistance.

If you’ve got a question or need some advice, call the Vehicle Recovery team on 01656 306072.
