Learning and Development Services

Learning and Development Services is the department responsible for the training and professional development of both police officers and police staff.

We recognise that effective training is fundamental to delivering a professional service and ensuring the officers and staff that work to keep South Wales safe are as highly skilled as possible.

Every new officer goes through an initial operational police development programme, but later training and development can vary amongst officers given their areas of specialism in the fight against crime.

Some of the other most common areas of training include:

  • • IT and Communication
  • • Investigative Training
  • • Driving
  • • Leadership Equality and Diversity

Training and professional development has evolved significantly over the last few years, with more and more training packages being delivered efficiently and effectively online and whilst the officers are actually on the beat.

The Learning and Development Services Team have won a number of nationally recognised awards and provide a range of courses that may be of interest to both other organisations and the general public.

These include:

  • • Health and Safety
  • • Conflict Management
  • • Leadership
  • • Mentoring and coaching
  • • Presentation Skills
  • • Diversity
