Appeal for Information: Cardiff Bay Assault

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a man was seriously assaulted in Cardiff Bay during the early hours of Saturday 5th November.

The 19-year-old man from Bath was walking in the vicinity of Bute Terrace around 12.45am when he was approached by an unknown man who began walking with him.

In the Tyndall Street area, the victim had his property stolen and was seriously assaulted, sustaining critical injuries.

He is currently being treated at the University Hospital of Wales where he remains in a critical condition.

Officers are appealing to the public to help trace the man seen walking with the victim.

Detective Inspector Shane Ahmed said: "This incident is appalling and a full investigation is underway to catch the person responsible.

Our thoughts are with the family of the victim, who are being supported by a trained family liaison officer at this difficult time.

Although the assault happened during the early hours of the morning, there may have been a number of people out, on their way to or from Cardiff city centre and we're appealing for anyone with information to come forward."

The man wanted in connection to this incident is described as mixed race, and was wearing a white-striped polo t-shirt with a dark coloured motif on the left breast, blue jeans and white trainers.

DI Ahmed added: I’m urging anyone who may have witnessed the pair walking or anyone who spoke to someone matching the description of this man in the nearby area to contact police immediately."

Latest Home Office crime figures show a 13% reduction in robbery, or 39 fewer victims, and a 6% reduction in violent crime, or 386 fewer victims, in Cardiff compared to the previous 12 months, and overall crime is down 9% across the city.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Cardiff Central CID on 02920 527420, or 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
