Crime investigation is one of the most important elements of police work, so it’s vital that officers receive the necessary training in order to effectively solve cases.
The South Wales Police Investigative Training Unit has been recognised as achieving best practice in providing training in the interviewing, investigation and intelligence fields.
The unit works with operational police officers, PCSOs, student officers, supervisors, neighbouring police forces, and many partner agencies such as the Serious and Organised Crime Agency, helping to develop their knowledge in:
- The Legal Framework
- The Characteristics of Crime
- National and Local Policies
- Investigative Skills
All staff are qualified trainers who have investigative backgrounds and specialist knowledge in interviewing, intelligence, disclosure, dealing with sexual offences, child protection and forensic evidence.
State of the art technology such as the Hydra and Minerva training suites are used to deliver stimulating courses, where learners can experience realistic criminal investigations and critical incidents.
Research conducted by the unit has been presented at an International level as best practice and the team have also built links with police forces across the country to help them deliver new courses.
The Intelligence training developed in South Wales Police has also been praised in the Office of Surveillance Commissioners Report, and was recommended as best practice for other Forces.
