The It’s No Joke project has been developed to encourage more victims and witnesses of homophobic and transphobic hate crime, whether they are ‘gay or straight’, to access Victim Support¹s enhanced support service.
The enhanced support service for an individual victim/witness includes as required:
- early contact and a personalised support service in the form of home visits and telephone support
- early preparation for court
- a higher level of liaison with other agencies and supporters
- an explanation and demonstration of any court special measures that can be applied for and accompanying victims/witnesses in TV link rooms
- then after court, an assessment of what further support is needed and either the provision of the service or a referral made to another relevant agency
