Professional Standards

High standards help to keep South Wales Police at the forefront of UK policing.

The Professional Standards Department (PSD) is based at Police Headquarters in Bridgend. It also has four satellite offices dealing with complaints originating in different regions across the force.

Head of Professional Standards: Chief Superintendent Tim Jones

The Senior Management Team also includes:

Superintendent Martyn Jones
Chief Inspector Cheryl Jones
Chief Inspector Gary Osborne
Mr. Colin Jenkins (Head of the Force Vetting Unit)
Mr. Dale Ponting (Senior Manager of Professional Standards)

The department is responsible for recording and investigating not only complaints from members of the public but also allegations made internally by members of the force, and also any issues of corruption. South Wales Police has an absolute resolve to root out any corrupt practice and strives to maintain the public confidence through zero tolerance of corruption.

All members of the force are required to live up to nationally agreed standards of behaviour. Any breaches of these standards may result in disciplinary action being taken.

There are a number of ways for complaints made by members of the public to be approached, please see “How to make a complaint” for more information on these options.
