The latest Home Office crime figures show the streets of South Wales are staying safe, with a 10% drop in crime across the region.
Crime figures for the 12 month period up to December 31st 2010 released by the Home Office on Wednesday 20th April 2011 reveal that crime overall in the South Wales Police area has fallen by 10.3% compared to the year before.
This is equivalent to 30 less victims of crime per day, placing the Force as the 12th most improved in Wales and England for reducing crime.
The figures show that there were 10,917 fewer victims of crime overall, with notable reductions in key areas such as burglary and vehicle crime.
The biggest drop was in the number of stolen vehicles which fell by 23.3%.
The number of thefts from vehicles also reduced by 22.5%, with vehicle crime overall falling by 22.7%.
This equates to 3195 fewer victims of crime and 9 less victims per day, placing the force as the 8th most improved for vehicle offences.
The number of homes burgled has significantly dropped by 10.3%, resulting in 532 fewer break-ins and placing the force as the 15th most improved for that offence category.
Criminal damage has also reduced by 19%, with 4473 fewer offences resulting in 12 less victims of crime per day.
Robberies have dropped by 19.2%, and violence against the person reduced by 6.6% with 4 fewer victims per day.
Sexual offences also fell by 5.5%.
The South Wales Police area has the second lowest level of sexual offences in England and Wales based on per 1000 in population.
Force detection rates are also up by 2.2%.
