South & East Wales Air Support Unit
The South and East Wales Air Support Unit is well equipped, possessing one of the newest and most technically advanced in the UK. The helicopter is shared between South Wales and Gwent police.
The provision of Air Support has become an essential aspect of many Police Operations. From the traditional dynamic response role of responding to pursuits, missing persons or incidents requiring containment, to providing an aerial observation and control platform at major events, to the increasing use of aviation in surveillance operations.
Technology has now developed to an extent whereby the current Eurocopter EC135 helicopter can stay airborne for periods of up to two and a half hours and regularly completes more than three tasks during one flight.
