As a PCSO, you will enjoy the following benefits:
- A starting salary of £19,326 rising to £21,302 plus weekend enhancements and a 14% shift allowance to be claimed as and when worked.
- A holiday entitlement of 24 days, with this increasing with your length of service
- Full pay during absence from duties due to sickness or injury for the first month, with this increasing with your length of service
As a Police Community Support Officer with South Wales Police, you must be prepared to be posted and serve anywhere within the South Wales area.
You will also be required to work a shift pattern during a 37 hour week, with some shifts falling on weekends or unsociable hours. The police service as a whole is currently experimenting with a number of different shift patterns.
All new recruits must complete formal training following appointment. This includes 9 weeks classroom based learning (Please note that during this period you will not be able to take any time off. You will have the opportunity to take leave before you start the next step). You will then start at the Police Station where you have been appointed and work with a PCSO mentor who will help you for the next 8 weeks and throughout your 6 months probation.
